Landsend saturday open 29/5/21

The usual drive down to Somerset today to fish the saturday knock up. I think it was 11 fishing today and we were on lake three. Peg 46 come out for me. OK for a bit of everything. For company I had Russ "Compo" Peck to my right, so the regulation quid side bet was on, And Dave Ings in the corner on 41. Banter was on the cards. Rigs today were a meat rig for 2+1, silvers rig for down the track. A pellet rig for against the island. A slapper and an edge rig for both sides. Started over to the island were in the first 20 minutes I had two F1`s, a skimmer and a crucian. That went quiet so I came in on the silvers line and started to get regular crucians and the odd skimmer on soft pellet, but they were small. that lasted about an hours before it went quiet. So it was a case of swapping around all day. The slapping rig was a waste of time as it wasnt food they were cruising for today. The meat rig produced just the one carp. The best line for carp was the right margin were I fished it down the slope and took 8 decent carp on 8mm pellet and managed to release quite a few. The left margin had a nice flat spot but didnt realy do anything. Russ had a late run fishing pellet after he got his head in gear, so it was close for the quid. Dave had a decent day on the silvers but was well behind the Bean Machine opposite who was looking like breaking the lakes silvers record. Steve Seager was quiet all day so we knew he was catching. Russ weighed more than I thought and put a total of 59-04 on the scales, but I thought I had that beat. And I did with 59-12. Close but no cigar russ lol. Cheers for the quid mate lol.

That got me second on the day again. Doing that a lot lately. Steve seagar had 63-01 to take the win. Dave "Beany" Westcott took the silvers with 32-04, just ounces short of the record. No cigar again. Rod Wootton was there today but didnt speak to anybody all day except to moan about the fluff hahahaha. Misserable bugger. full Weights below

Landsend Fishery Saturday Open

Down to Landsend today for the ususal Saturday knock up. Only 10 brave souls today decided to battle the winds. I helped with the draw today and pulled out peg 22 for myself. Not a bad area, even though Russ Peck says there are no fish that end of the lake when he draws it. He said the same today when he drew the other end lol. A quid bet was agreed with Russ but I didnt think I had a chance as he drew peg 15. But saying that I think he stuffed up that peg last week  hahaha.  For company I had Dave Ings without an "E" on 24 and Alan Oram opposite on peg 1. I decided on a meat line at 2+2, Both margins and tight to the island for the carp lines. And a 9m line for the silvers. I started on the silvers line, on hard 4`s over micros, but had nothing on that for 15 minutes so went across to the island as Id seen a few move early on the pellets. But the wind was very gusty and presentation was difficult. So I came in on the meat line. Again nothing resulted. Back to the silvers and started to get small crusians to about 6 ounces. But that dried up. Dave and Alan were doing pretty good catching regular silvers. So I went back across. But by now the wind had picked up a lot. I pushed my luck for about 15 minutes but after the fourth rip round of the pole I wasnt prepared to risk smashing a section again in the wind and ditched that line for the day. And it was a good choice as the wind just kept getting worse. It got to a point where it was realy difficult to hold a top four without dragging the float around. The silvers line was also ditched as that was too hard. So I ended up swapping the meat line for pellets and just sat it out in hope that the carp would eventually feed. After 3 hours I got three carp in a short burst. One down the right margin and two on the 2+2 pellet line. Dave and Alan were tearing into the silvers. Alan catching more but Dave had some quality skimmers so it was close. Gary Flinder to my left on 19 was getting a few carp and was running away with it. The last two hours bites were a bit scarce but I did start to catch the odd carp and a couple of silvers on 6mm pellet. Hooked a few down the edges too but managed to release most of them. A burst in the last 15 minutes saw my carp count go to 11 before the all out. I was guesing on the high 40`s for a total weight. Alan put an impresive 26-15 of silvers on the scales and totaled 31-1. Gary Flinders won easily as expected with 93-6. My silver went 4-15 and the carp took the total to 54-2 which got me second on the day. Dave did an even 18lb  -  18lb split for 36-5. Russ got third with 42-8 so the quid was greatfully received. Cheers Russ, that`s the first Ive had from you for way too long.  It will be nice to have a day out without getting the flesh ripped from my face as the wind is being an absolute pain lately. Just never seams to stop. Ya never know, summer might actually start soon. Full results below.

Sedges over 50`s Monday silvers Open

Off to The Sedges today for aa silvers match. Felt like Billy no mates today as I didnt know anybody there. Peg 11 ping pong ball come out the bucket for me, and I know its a decent area so I was happy with that.

Three rigs today. two to fish at 9m and 13m , one to fish on the drop and one for straight down. And another for top kit plus one on a flat spot down the shelf to my right. Also set up a small feeder as it was pretty windy. I started of feeding all my pole lines with groundbait laced with caster, dead reds and micros. Same on all lines. if they didnt like it tuff, thats all they were getting.Went out on the feeder to strt with and had a skimmer about a pound first chuck. then minutes later got smashed up by a carp. Not what I wanted. The trouble I had was the fluffy crap blowing off the trees. It was like it was snowing all day and I spent ages cleaning my rod eyes and pole lines. It was even sticking to my eyeballs where there was so much, and with slimmy wet hands I couldnt do much about it. I ended up with sore eyes with the fluff and the constant wind in my face. That skimmer  was the only fish I had on the feeder. I tried the pole line out long but it wasnt great presentation and only had a few small skimmers and a few carp out there. Most of the day was spent on the 2+1 line where I started to get a few small skimmers in the first half of the match. Second half of the match things slowed up and bites were a premium. I had to wait quite a while for a bite but they were bigger fish. Bream to 3lb and a couple of bonus tench over 3lb. The carp were a constant problem and  think thats why my fish were few and far between. I must have hooked 15 of the lumpy buggers. At the end I thought I had around 25lb and was very close as my ney went 25-10, and that got me second place today. So not too bad as its only the second time Ive fished this lake. Happy to take a bit of coin home.

Tony Rixons Acorn Open

Acorn was the venue of choice for today, and when I got there, there was a strong wind blowing straight down the lake. The end bank was gonna be uncomfortable for whoever drew it. And yep, it was me. Right opposite the middle canal on peg 9. A nice peg in decent weather. I thought the wind at Landsend was bad on saturday but this was a different league. It blew a holligan all day and never let up for a second. Started the day on 2+2 with maggot over micros. has a few tiny tench, roach, perch and a decent F1 around 1lb. but it was gonna be hard work with the size of most fish. So I tried across to the island. There were plenty showing but presenting a bait was almost impossible. I gave it a good go but when I hooked anythhing they shot to the right into open water and the pole was ripped to the left with the wind ripping the hook out. So after a few times that the pole was sent flying I wasnt prepared to smash it in the wind and binned tha line for the rest of the day. It was a pity as good carp were rolling there all day. And on the wind, I managed to smash the number 4 section in the wind fishing 2+2 it was that bad. I changed to feedeing 4s and fishing 6s half way through and got some good f1s and big tench going, but with no carp the f1s are a waste of time as in Tony`s matches F1s count as carp and theres no way you can get enough to keep up with people catching lumps. So I just chucked them in with my silvers as I wasnt catching enough of them to compete either. I did manage a few carp short late on but it was all too little too late for me. I had nothing down the edges as it was hammering through tight in with the wind causing a heavy tow from the middle canal.  I was glad when the all out was called as I felt like id been in a fight with Mike Tyson after that battering by the wind. I weighed in for the fun of it even though I knew I had no chance of a result. My F1s and silver were a 50/50 split for 29lb, and the carp took it to 45-3. No coin for me today. Dave Inges was top weight from peg 2 with 109lb. Hes on a roll at the mo. Tony was second with 81-01 from mill pond peg 38. Top silvers was ray Cooper from peg 36 with 30-14. Full results below.

Landsend Saturday open 8/5/2021

The forecast today was for loads of rain so wasnt sure if i was looking forward to a day on the bank, but its better than staring at a tv. Mike did the draw and I was first in line. out comes 16, lovely jubbly.

I had Dave "Mary Berry" Ings to my left so I was pretty sure he would go for the silvers as it had a good weight there last week. 4 rigs today. A silvers rig for 2+2, Carp rig for the same line and just about anywhere in the peg. Same depth all over. An edge rig for the right margin. and a shallow rig for across in 2 foot of water. Started on the silvers rig with pellet to see if they would play but it wasnt prolific. Had a few small tench and a couple of roach, plus a bonus 2lb F1. Then a decent carp and on 4-6 elastic it was a struggle. Went across after 45 minutes and that is where I stayed for a lot of the day after that. Even though it was a gail force wind it was straight off my back so it didnt touch the pole. It did however make pinging pellets across a bit tricky. lets just say the rats are gonna have a mighty feed tonight. One pouch full in the water and three on the island if I was lucky. It did keep Dave amused with my tourettes. First half of the match I had the silver and 9 carp. Then it slowed right up and it was a struggle to get a bite for the secong half. I did pick up another five carp, but the bites would come in quick spurts then nothing for ages. At the end id clicked 70lb plus the silvers. The scales came around and Joe Massey was winning with 52lb. dave put 20-01 of silvers plus one carp on the scale for a total of 25-14. A nice day with loads of bites, even though the little tench keep coming off causing more tourettes. My silvers went 6-05 and the carp 65-10 for a total of 71-15 which was enough for the match win. Long time since Ive had one of those. Should of had a quid with Compo Peck. Simon Hawkins was second from peg 21 with 58-12. Beany called the all out 30 minutes early confusing everybody. Plonker. Gonna buy him a watch with big numbers on it as he obviously cant see the one hes got lol. full weigh shett below.
